Coscolluela, Edwin

Born on December 18, 1953, in Manila, Edwin Coscolluela is a veteran visual artist, master photographer, and retired educator currently based in Laguna. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in Painting, from the University of the East (UE) and later completed his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) at the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman.

Coscolluela has balanced a prolific studio practice with a monumental 36-year teaching career, guiding generations of student practitioners. He has participated in more than 100 exhibitions since 1973, establishing himself as a foundational figure in local abstract and optical art.

Academic & Professional Background:

Education: BFA in Painting from the University of the East / Master of Fine Arts from the University of the Philippines.

Teaching Legacy: Dedicated over three decades (from 1985 until his retirement) as a core Fine Arts faculty member at the College of the Holy Spirit in Mendiola, Manila. He previously taught at the University of the East College of Fine Arts (1978–1983).

Early Photography Practice: Worked as an editorial photojournalist for Radio Press (1975–1976) and a studio photographer for Sunset Studio in Greenhills (1976–1978).
