Born in Manila in 1961, Dan Raralio built a formidable creative practice that positions him as an essential vanguard of post-war Philippine contemporary art. He formalized his visual sensibilities at the University of the Philippines Diliman during a highly experimental era, anchoring his early foundations in painting before fully committing his practice to three-dimensional structures.
Raralio’s multi-decade career seamlessly bridges elite gallery showcases with massive public and corporate state projects across Southeast Asia. His early material breakthroughs earned him the highly prestigious Cultural Center of the Philippines Thirteen Artists Award in 1988, locking down his status in the modern national canon. His advanced technical skill has led to competitive transnational fellowships, including multi-month studio residencies in the United States. He remains a highly active, relentlessly evolving force in the local art scene, continuously pushing the structural boundaries of wood, metal, and space from his studio in Metro Manila.
