Biography

Born in the Philippines, Ibarra Dela Rosa established himself as an invaluable anchor of the country's mid-century modern art movement. He dedicated much of his career to eternalizing the glory and architectural heritage of local historical landmarks, translating the stone and spirit of old Manila into vibrant, contemporary masterworks.

In recognition of his radical stylistic innovations and his impact on the trajectory of Philippine contemporary painting, he was named one of the country's most promising creative vanguards during the height of the 1970s art boom.

Major Awards & Distinctions:

1972: Recipient, Highly Coveted Thirteen Artists Award – Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP)

Notable Works & Historical Series:

Right Side of San Agustin Church (1971): A landmark acrylic painting capturing the iconic religious architecture of Manila, setting the stage for his major institutional award the following year.

Intramuros Series (1973): A dedicated body of work aimed at preserving the cultural identity and memory of the historic Walled City through an impressionistic lens.

Fort Santiago Series (1974): A poignant series focusing on one of the country's most significant historical fortifications, blending rigorous structural forms with surreal color dynamics.
