Born on February 11, 1973, Jucar Raquepo is an essential vanguard of the post-90s generation of contemporary Filipino painters. He received his formal visual foundations at the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts, where he emerged as a highly disciplined draftsperson and painter, earning the prestigious Pitoy Moreno Fine Arts Scholarship.
Raquepo’s career quickly exploded beyond the domestic landscape, gaining significant international momentum through elite global residencies. In 2009, he received the coveted Asia Pacific Artists Fellowship at the National Museum of Contemporary Art in South Korea, followed by competitive studio stints in Canada. Crucially, Raquepo was a core exhibiting member of the historic Bastards of Misrepresentation movement curated by Manuel Ocampo, an underground art cluster that traveled to Berlin, Hamburg, and New York to introduce international audiences to the gritty, non-conformist realities of the Manila art scene. Alongside his relentless studio practice, Raquepo is a dedicated educator, mentoring young students and running public art workshops for marginalized street children.
