Biography

Al Cruz is a contemporary Filipino ar4st based in the Philippines, born in 1976 in Sta. Cruz,
Manila. He studied at the University of the Philippines Diliman, where he majored in Studio Arts
at the College of Fine Arts. He began his ar4s4c journey as a student, holding his first exhibi4on
in 1997. Since then, Cruz has showcased his work in numerous galleries across Metro Manila,
including prominent ins4tu4ons such as the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the Vargas
Museum. His interna4onal reach includes exhibi4ons in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, and
New York City.
Cruz's mul4disciplinary prac4ce spans objects, installa4ons, performance, photographs,
collages, drawings and pain4ngs. His work is conceptually driven, exploring themes of
conceptual art, appropria4on, minimalism, postmodernism, and the complexi4es of everyday
life. Through his art, he interrogates the intersec4on of personal and cultural narra4ves, oRen
ques4oning the boundaries of ar4s4c expression and the role of the viewer.
