Lamberto Hechanova (born 1939, Iloilo, Philippines) is a Filipino painter, printmaker, and sculptor celebrated for his modernist innovations and deep cultural sensibilities. A graduate of the University of Santo Tomas with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Hechanova quickly emerged as a pioneering figure in Philippine contemporary art.
He held his first solo exhibition in 1966 at the Northern Motors Showroom, and in 1969, represented the Philippines at the Sixth Paris Biennale, establishing his presence on the international stage. Known for his experimental use of materials, Hechanova combined aluminum, wood, and plexiglass to create dynamic, abstract sculptures marked by bold compositions, vibrant color, and masterful form.
His accolades include the Thirteen Artists Award (1970, Cultural Center of the Philippines), First Prize for Perspectus (1967), and recognition from the Art Association of the Philippines and Shell National Students Art Competition. Hechanova’s works have been widely exhibited, including at the Philippine Center in New York, where they were showcased alongside other Filipino artists in the diaspora.
