Biography

Vermont M. Coronel, Jr. (b. 1985, Laguna, Philippines) earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Advertising from the Philippine Women’s University. Recognized for his street-based practice, Coronel draws deeply from urban environments, often working in a guerrilla style both independently and as part of the collective Pilipinas Street Plan. His first solo exhibitions, Spirit of a Place and Dream | World, held at The Drawing Room Gallery, earned him shortlist recognitions at the 2012 and 2014 Ateneo Art Awards—one of the country’s most esteemed contemporary art distinctions.
Coronel’s works are characterized by his use of stencil-based techniques, at times incorporating the stencil matrices themselves to form multilayered compositions. His imagery, rooted in his daily experiences of Manila and Laguna, captures the pulse and texture of contemporary urban life. In 2015, he was honored with the prestigious Thirteen Artists Award from the Cultural Center of the Philippines, recognizing his innovative contributions to Philippine contemporary art.
